Area of a rectangle

Measure the space inside a rectangle.

Understand the idea

Area counts square units covering a surface. For a rectangle, multiply length by width, after checking both lengths use the same unit.

See a worked example

Length 9 cm and width 4 cm give area 9 × 4 = 36 cm².

A useful check

Area is in square units. Perimeter is the distance around the boundary.

Try a fresh practice set

Five questions with feedback on every answer. New sets can repeat familiar ideas so you can practise again. This is practice, not a certified assessment.
