Privacy policy

AI Study Guru (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates a WhatsApp-based AI study assistant and this website, www.aistudyguru.in. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By chatting with our assistant on WhatsApp or using this website, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who we are

AI Study Guru is an independent education service for Indian students. We are not affiliated with CBSE, NCERT, GSEB, NTA or any government body. For all privacy questions, requests or complaints, contact us on WhatsApp at +91 91575 16794 or through the support form on our contact page.

2. Information we collect

When you use the WhatsApp assistant

• Your WhatsApp phone number and the display name your WhatsApp account shares with us.
• Profile details you give us: class, board, stream, subjects and preferred language.
• The messages you send, including doubts, homework photos and voice notes, and the answers the assistant produces.
• Quiz answers, streaks and progress data used to track learning.
• An optional parent or guardian number, if you choose to link one for weekly progress reports.

When you use this website

Learning accounts: public lessons do not require registration. If an adult learner or parent/guardian connects an account, we store the verified WhatsApp number, their adult/guardian declaration and consent version, learning preferences, bookmarks, practice topics and scores. The declaration and number verification do not independently establish a person's age or guardianship. Website linking does not overwrite the existing bot profile or subscribe the learner to marketing.

Practice and bot continuity: interactive learning-library answers are sent to our server for checking. Temporary practice questions expire after one hour; unconnected results are removed after 24 hours. Connected practice results are retained for up to one year and may inform the AI tutor's explanations when relevant. Anonymous sessions expire after one day and connected website sessions after 14 days. Expired records are removed during subsequent learning activity. The original English-studio exercises continue to check answers in the browser.

Your choices: use an adult or guardian-controlled WhatsApp account for a child. Sign out on shared devices. My Learning lets you delete website progress, bookmarks and website sign-ins without deleting the bot profile. Sending “delete profile” to the bot also removes learning records linked to that number. We do not send phone numbers, selected answers or scores to website analytics, and the private My Learning page does not load Google Analytics.

• Server logs: IP address, browser type, pages visited and timestamps, kept for security, debugging and aggregate analytics.
• Analytics data collected via Google Analytics, in aggregate and without identifying individual students.
• If you submit a support ticket: the phone number and details you provide so we can respond on WhatsApp.

Payments

Premium subscriptions are processed by Razorpay (and UPI/card networks). We never store your full card details. We retain only the payment reference, plan, amount and status needed to activate and renew your plan.

3. How we use information

• To teach: answer questions at your class level, remember your preferences, run quizzes and revision reminders.
• To operate accounts, activate paid plans, and provide support.
• To send optional messages you have asked for, such as the Sunday greeting or parent progress reports; every such message includes instructions to opt out.
• To improve answer quality, detect abuse, and keep the service safe.
• To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your WhatsApp messages with advertisers.

4. AI processing

Questions, homework photos and voice notes you send are processed by automated systems, including third-party artificial-intelligence model providers, to generate explanations. These providers process data only on our instructions to deliver the answer and do not use it to build advertising profiles. Avoid sending personal information that is not needed to answer your study question.

5. Cookies and advertising on this website

An essential, secure learning-session cookie keeps your sign-in and practice session working. It is not an advertising cookie. Website account pages do not expose your full number to other visitors.

This website uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

• Essential and functional: to remember interface preferences and keep the site secure.
• Analytics: Google Analytics cookies help us understand which pages are useful, in aggregate.

Third-party advertising. We display advertising on this website. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies (including the Google advertising cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may then work less smoothly.

6. Children and students

Our service is designed for school and college students, so we take children's privacy seriously.

• We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child (below 18 years of age, or a lower age required by your local law) without verifiable parental or guardian consent where such consent is required.
• We do not use children's data for behavioural tracking or advertising profiling. Where advertising is displayed, students and minors are shown only general, non-personalised ads, and parents can ask us to disable ads for their child's use by messaging +91 91575 16794.
• Parents and guardians can request a copy of their child's data, correction of it, or complete deletion at any time.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the EU GDPR, or other applicable laws), you have rights over your personal data, including the right to:

• Access a summary of the data we hold about you;
• Correct inaccurate data;
• Erasure (delete your data);
• Withdraw consent and opt out of marketing messages at any time;
• Nominate another person to exercise your rights if you are unable to.

Deleting your data: send delete profile to the assistant on WhatsApp, or message +91 91575 16794. We remove your profile and study data and confirm the deletion. Backups may take up to 30 days to expire. Website server logs are deleted on a rolling basis.

8. How long we keep data

• Chat and study data: kept while your account is active, and deleted when you send delete profile or after prolonged inactivity.
• Payment records: kept for the period required by tax and accounting rules.
• Server and security logs: kept for up to 90 days.

9. Who we share data with

• Service providers that help us operate: cloud hosting, WhatsApp Business solution providers, AI model providers, analytics (Google Analytics) and payments (Razorpay). They may process data only to provide their service to us.
• Legal and safety: when required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users (for example, reports of content involving the safety of a minor).
• We never share your study data with advertisers.

10. How we protect data

Our website is served over HTTPS. Access to production systems is restricted, passwords and keys are stored securely, and we review access regularly. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your data and review our practices periodically.

11. International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside your state or country. Where data leaves India, we rely on the safeguards required by applicable law and the contracts we hold with our providers.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The “last updated” date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be announced on this page, and where appropriate, in the WhatsApp assistant itself.

13. Grievance officer

If you have a complaint or question about your privacy that we have not resolved, contact our grievance officer through WhatsApp at +91 91575 16794 (ask for the grievance officer) or via the support form. We acknowledge every privacy request and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
