Probability with equally likely outcomes

Count favourable outcomes and all possible outcomes.

Understand the idea

When individual outcomes are equally likely, probability is favourable outcomes divided by total outcomes. A probability must be between zero and one.

See a worked example

A bag has 3 red and 5 blue balls. P(red) = 3/(3 + 5) = 3/8.

A useful check

Use the total number of balls as the denominator, not only the unwanted colour.

Try a fresh practice set

Five questions with feedback on every answer. New sets can repeat familiar ideas so you can practise again. This is practice, not a certified assessment.
