Quadratics by factorisation

Find roots by writing a quadratic as a product.

Understand the idea

For x² − Sx + P, look for two numbers whose sum is S and product is P. Then use the zero-product rule. These practice questions have two positive integer roots.

See a worked example

x² − 7x + 12 = (x − 3)(x − 4). Either factor can be zero, so x = 3 or 4.

A useful check

Keep both roots and check the signs in the factors.

Try a fresh practice set

Five questions with feedback on every answer. New sets can repeat familiar ideas so you can practise again. This is practice, not a certified assessment.
