Divide a total in a ratio

Turn ratio parts into real quantities.

Understand the idea

Add the ratio numbers to find the total number of parts. Divide the whole quantity by that total, then multiply by the number of parts required.

See a worked example

Red : blue = 2 : 3 and total = 25. Five parts share 25, so one part is 5. Red = 2 × 5 = 10.

The first ratio number is not automatically the actual quantity.
