What makes a timetable survive contact with real life

Most schedules die for one of three reasons: they plan more hours than the week contains, they give every hour to “study” with no specific job, or they break once and are abandoned. This generator avoids all three by building blocks around your actual subjects and hours — but the habits below are what keep it alive.

One block, one job

Divide your study time into three job types and rotate them: learn (new material, when fresh), practise (questions and past papers, when alert), revise (quizzes and recall, when tired). An hour labelled “Maths” gets wasted; an hour labelled “Maths: 12 quadratics from exercise 4.3” cannot be.

Work in focused sprints

Try 25–40 minute sprints with 5–10 minute breaks (the classic Pomodoro rhythm). During the sprint, the phone is in another room — not face down, another room. During the break, move around. Two or three sprints per evening slot is a complete, honest study session; four is excellent.

Weekly targets beat daily perfection

Set each subject a weekly target (“Science: light chapter + 2 timed sections”). If Tuesday collapses, the week absorbs it. Judge yourself on Sunday evening by one question: did I attempt my target number of questions? Hours sat are a vanity metric; questions attempted are the real one.

Where revision goes

Reserve the lightest slots of the day — early morning, commutes, the last 30 minutes before sleep — for recall: formula sheets, flashcards, a quiz on WhatsApp. Full method in the NCERT revision guide; a copyable school-day template lives in the Class 10 timetable guide.

Fixing a broken week

  • Always behind: cut scope to the red chapters only, don't stretch hours.
  • One subject never happens: move it to your freshest slot.
  • Exhausted every evening: the plan is overfull by two hours — remove, don't push.
  • Nothing sticks: you are all “learn”, no “revise” — swap one practice slot for quiz recall.
