Eight useful English words and their meanings

Learn a few words well, then use them in your own sentences. These words help you describe learning, people and daily life.

Understand the idea

Learn a new word with a meaning and a sentence. The meaning in context matters more than memorising a translation alone. Patient means able to wait calmly: Our patient teacher explained again. Careful means paying attention to avoid mistakes: Be careful with the glass. Improve means get better: I practise to improve. Borrow means take something temporarily and return it: May I borrow your book? Return means give back or come back: Please return the book tomorrow. A person can feel afraid and still be brave. Kind does not mean weak. Curious can describe a learner who asks questions. Pick one word, imagine a real situation, then say a sentence. Repeat tomorrow with a different example.
